W. Vardousia mt / opening the old Artotina - Lakkos forest path / Pindus trail
The marking and inclusion of this route in the officially approved forestry study, was the conbined result
of the instructions and detailed advice of the local breeders, as well as a lot of searching along the
faint traces of a forgotten, beautiful 5.2 km-long route.
It finally brought us via the best possible way from Artotina, opposite to the highest point of a dirt
road, which ends higher in the meadows of Lakkos under the imposing Soufles.
This means that 93% of the route is now passable by path, avoiding the chore of hiking for many kilometers on dirt road, as was the case till now. This means that the use of vehicles is no longer necessary for the hikers who want to get from Lakko to Soufles and the neighboring peaks of western Vardousia.
Due to the unfavorable weather conditions we had to cancel the originally open invitation to volunteers and instead we worked with a small team of Terra Pindus, whenever their was an opening in the weather front. We like to thank the residents and the president of Artotina for the warm hospitality
At the earliest opportunity we plan to continue the final shaping and marking of the forest path with environment-friendly materials of high durability and specifications, and to extent it to the alpine zone for the crossing of Vardousia and the new connection Artotina - Ath. Diakos, so it includes the two local mountain shelters as well as many other remarkable sights and locations.
