A wonderful 3 days of volunteering at Athanasios Diakos in Vardousia mt.
Last week we met again.. how wonderful to see hope dressed in its finest!
This wonderful group has an insatiable appetite for giving and creativity and has found the perfect way to support the Pindus Trail, helping with the work on the trail, which over the last decade has been gradually restored for crossing the mountain range!
The regular volunteers of Whelling2Help are an initiated group that travels with a purpose.
For the past two years, for the sake of the Pindos trail, they have been visiting us between their long journeys (Africa, Asia) and stay here, in our field of rebirth, in the place where the pulse of the struggle for free mountains, free people, and a clean environment beats!
This time we met at Athanasios Diakos, formerly Ano Mousounitsa.
Our goal was to restore the trail connecting the village with the pastures of Vardousia to its original route and improve its accessibility. As expected, the goal was achieved, and so we proceeded to mark the route, which currently leads to two neighboring mountain shelters.
The team covered a distance of 5 km and worked diligently, making improvements to areas that had been left pending after the repeated volunteer actions of Terra Pindus members during 2024.
The action was supported by the members of the Ravanis family from Athanasios Diakos, who offered their valuable assistance from the restaurant they have been running for decades in the village square, feeding the 40-member team of volunteers, who really worked hard to achieve the best possible result.
They were all wonderful, and thanks to everyone`s contribution, we left behind a well-maintained trail of high aesthetic and cultural value.
The action was carried out with the symbolic financial contribution of the volunteers to cover the team`s food expenses, while the Ravanis family offered 1 day of free meals by hosting us in their cozy restaurant.
As with every event, the Thessaloniki-based sportswear company Anthrax https://shopanthrax.com/ was there again, donating commemorative T-shirts for the event!
Thank you all!
