The signposting of the Sykia - Mornos path for the connection of Ghiona and Vardousia moyntains was completed.
This week 5-8/2/2024 the final route marking proceeded on the Sykia - Mornos section for the connection of Ghiona and Vardousia mountains.
The daily section 5. Sykia - Kato Musounitsa - Ath. Diakos 12km. has progressed significantly with final waymarking and is expected to be completed in the next period.
In the meantime, we share some pictures of the wonderful trail that has come back to life, after repeated efforts that started in 2019 and are being completed this year with the help of dozens of volunteers.
The result is truly impressive, considering its previous condition. As for its usefulness, apart from the fact that a forgotten path connecting the village to the river has been found and maintained, it is noteworthy to mention that it contributes, together with the rest of the leg of the route opened from Morno to Kato Mousounitsa and Athanasios Diakos, to the hiking connection between two iconic mountains of Roumeli, Giona and Vardousia, revisiting along its entire length livelihood paths that were deserted decades ago.
A repeat will soon follow to complete the section.
