Save Agrafa "Kazarma to remain a mountain"
Another resounding message travelled over the gorges, gorges and peaks of Agrafa to be heard throughout the country.
No more degradation of the environment. No desecration of Agrafa!
Hundreds of souls, upset by the threat that is spreading rapidly and overtly, gathered early to protest peacefully, coordinating symbolic marches up the peaks of the Agrafas with Kazarma at the centre.
Unwillingly the eye flew towards the wind project that profiteers installed on Tympano in the neighbouring ravine and one need not excite one`s imagination with a bad scenario.
The project is playing out before our fearful eyes, casting a shadow over the place, crushing the pride of an indomitable people and any prospect of development dreamed of by the residents and the local government, who are acting in a direction other than that of industrialization of Agrafa.
How is it possible that a speculator`s racket can find a way to be implemented at the expense of thousands of people and the ridges of the iconic mountains whose physiognomy has aroused the awe of the world? How problematic and unfair, instead of enjoying our contact with nature, to run around with protest banners in the gaps and on the peaks?
Who triggers and encourages this situation?
The answer is known, but what is the solution?
So once again the mountains are flooded with people, as are the media with images and videos testifying to the events and the dynamic presence of the hikers, who will not back down as long as Agrafa and other iconic and life-giving sites are threatened by the business lobbies.
At the same time, parallel action was happening on Mount Tabouri, rising between the giants, Smolika and Gramos above the threatened Sarantaporo, with Giannians demonstrating for the protection of the Pindaian environment in the foothills of Epirus.
Everywhere the same concern is stirring up the world, and it would be a good thing if the messages were to multiply and take root in every place, eliminating the towhees from our mountains and rivers.
The message from Agrafa managed to travel through dozens of collectives, groups of autonomous hikers and the municipal authorities of Argithea, Agrafa and Lake Plastira who joined forces to defend nature, history and the inhabitants of the wider mountainous region, who are in danger of losing their reason for existence and any good sustainable foresight for their place.
There were events held low on Lake Plastiras and in the village of Petrilo and we looked into the eyes of people, both familiar and unfamiliar, who have never been seen before, as we are the generation that must shoulder the struggle to preserve the natural and cultural environment of this beautiful country.
Nowadays there is a crisis. A social, economic and environmental crisis, a whole lot of failures.
People don`t talk... They gloat, loaf or talk when there is an interest until their or someone else`s tank is empty.
Maybe it was always that way, but now we are rapidly multiplying, communicating with immediacy and variety and that determines the manner and intensity of interaction.
Given these criteria, we consider any event that brings people together and motivates them to work together for a good cause to be worthwhile. When it comes to the protection of the natural environment there is no room for doubt, the event becomes worthy of mention and dissemination, as many citizens are not aware of what is happening outside the urban fabric and somehow they need to be informed.
The protection of the environment is our concern όλους✌️
